“BRAIN ROT”: UNA REVISIÓN BIBLIOGRÁFICA SOBRE EL CONCEPTO, CAUSAS Y POSIBLES SOLUCIONES

Resumen

El término "brain rot" se ha convertido en un símbolo contemporáneo de la preocupación por los impactos del consumo excesivo de contenido digital en la salud mental, especialmente en niños y adolescentes. Esta revisión bibliográfica integradora explora los orígenes históricos del concepto, sus principales causas, la evidencia científica reciente y las estrategias de mitigación propuestas. Basándose en publicaciones académicas publicadas entre 2018 y 2025, el estudio rastrea la evolución del término, desde su mención original en 1854 por Thoreau hasta su reconocimiento como Palabra del Año por Oxford University Press en 2024. La evidencia sugiere que el uso no regulado y prolongado de medios digitales puede afectar negativamente las funciones ejecutivas, la atención, el desarrollo cognitivo y el bienestar emocional. En el contexto brasileño, estudios recientes revelan indicios de "fatiga atencional" en las escuelas. Las medidas de mitigación incluyen la regulación del tiempo frente a la pantalla, la alfabetización mediática crítica y la promoción de hábitos tecnológicos saludables. La conclusión es que la "podredumbre cerebral" debe entenderse como un fenómeno multidisciplinario y global, que requiere respuestas coordinadas entre familias, escuelas y políticas públicas.
