Abstract

Mechanical engineering plays a fundamental role in the design and construction of a portable machine tool capable of machining parts from 400 to 1200 millimeters in diameter. Engineering and the concepts of solid mechanics, kinematics, and materials science ensure the design of equipment that combines precision, robustness, and mobility. Therefore, the objective of this research is to demonstrate that the use of mechanical engineering streamlines the quality testing of new machine designs efficiently, thus preventing premature wear and backlash. The methodology is based on research into articles and other publications related to the topic, reviewed in recent decades in scientific journals. Specific software was also used to create a three-dimensional model with a detailed view of the machine tool. As a result, the use of mechanical engineering and its principles helped minimize errors during the conceptualization, design, construction, and assembly of the machine, as well as facilitating parameterization of the entire machining process. It can be concluded that mechanical engineering is an essential tool that minimizes failures and maximizes the success rate of mechanical projects. It also has a positive impact by streamlining, facilitating registration, and making changes to robust portable machine tool designs. These designs often employ modularity and ergonomics to machine large-diameter parts such as flanges (rackets), which play a crucial role in the safety, reliability, and interchangeability of oil and gas pipelines, ensuring perfect sealing.
