CONEXIONES ENTRE LA SALUD BUCAL Y LA SALUD MENTAL: UN ENFOQUE INTEGRADOR DE LA LITERATURA

Resumen

Introducción: La salud bucal se ha relacionado directamente con la autoestima, la salud mental y la calidad de vida. Problemas dentales, como la pérdida de piezas dentales, la maloclusión y las caries extensas, comprometen la autoimagen, generan inseguridad y contribuyen al desarrollo de trastornos como la ansiedad y la depresión. Objetivo: Investigar, mediante una revisión integrativa, cómo las condiciones de salud bucal impactan la autoestima y la salud mental de los pacientes sometidos a tratamiento dental. Metodología: Esta revisión integrativa se basó en la estrategia CoCoPop y el protocolo PRISMA. Se utilizaron artículos científicos publicados entre 2020 y 2024, disponibles en PubMed, SciELO, EBSCO y Google Scholar. La selección consideró estudios en portugués, inglés y español, con texto completo y revisión por pares. Conclusión: La literatura demuestra que la salud bucal tiene un fuerte impacto emocional y social en los pacientes. La rehabilitación estética y funcional, combinada con un enfoque humanizado y multidisciplinario, mejoró significativamente la autoestima, el bienestar psicológico y la calidad de vida. Se enfatizó la importancia de integrar la atención odontológica y psicológica para la atención integral de la salud del paciente.
