Abstract

Functional autonomy in aging is directly related to the ability to perform daily living activities with safety, mobility and independence, being influenced by factors such as muscle strength, balance and functional capacity, in this context, preventive physiotherapy has been investigated as a strategy to preserve these conditions over time. The objective of this study was to analyze the contribution of preventive physiotherapy to the maintenance of functional autonomy in older adults, considering its relationship with mobility, fall prevention and performance in daily activities. This is a qualitative and descriptive literature review, based on scientific productions addressing preventive physiotherapeutic interventions in aging. The results showed that therapeutic exercise programs, functional training and multicomponent interventions improve mobility, balance, strength and functional capacity, contributing to greater independence and safety in daily routines. It was also observed that fall prevention and muscle strengthening are directly related to the preservation of autonomy, reducing limitations and enhancing active participation of older adults in their social context. It is concluded that preventive physiotherapy has a positive influence on maintaining functional autonomy, representing a relevant strategy to promote aging with greater independence and quality of life.
