Temporary crowns play a key role in restorative dentistry, maintaining function, aesthetics, and patient comfort in the period between tooth preparation and placement of the final prosthesis. This study aims to gather and critically analyze the latest scientific findings on 3D-printed temporary crowns and bisacrylic resin crowns (Emex), comparing their mechanical, biological, and aesthetic properties. This integrative literature review was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach, aiming to answer the following guiding question: “What are the main properties, clinical efficacy, and dental applicability in a comparative analysis between 3D-printed temporary crowns and bisacrylic resin crowns (EMEX)?” For data collection, electronic databases and libraries specified in graphic representation were used, adopting active search strategies with the MeSH/DeCS descriptors: “((Dentistry) AND (Bis-acryl Resin OR Temporary crowns) AND (Three-Dimensional Printing OR 3D Printing))”, connected by the Boolean operator “AND.” The selection of studies followed inclusion criteria that covered articles published between April 2015 and April 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, including clinical case reports, systematic reviews, randomized clinical trials, and articles aligned with the theme. The methodological phases followed a structured protocol, and the selected studies were organized in a descriptive table for critical analysis and comparative discussion. The results demonstrate that 3D-printed temporary crowns offer considerable advantages over bisacrylic resin (EMEX) crowns, especially in the context of digital dentistry. Among the main benefits observed are workflow standardization, reduced clinical time, the possibility of customized design, and more precise marginal adaptation, especially when optimized printers are used. Although they show satisfactory clinical performance, it is important to note that these crowns still face challenges in terms of color stability, resistance to catastrophic failure, and the need for strict control of printing parameters. On the other hand, bisacrylic crowns remain a viable and widely used option, with emphasis on ease of clinical handling, good reparability with similar materials, and superior optical stability in cases of temporary use.
