Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Brazil and worldwide. It presents in three main forms: coronary artery disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. Among these, the most prevalent and most fatal is coronary artery disease, which causes myocardial ischemia and, if not treated in a timely manner, leads to necrosis. To prevent myocardial death, it is necessary for the patient to undergo revascularization, which may be performed through percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The choice between these approaches depends on the degree of arterial involvement and the number of affected vessels. Thus, a high percentage of obstruction and involvement of multiple arteries constitute a strong indication for surgical treatment. Therefore, considering the high clinical relevance of this disease, a study is being conducted to compare the sociodemographic data of patients undergoing procedures with the use of drug-eluting stents and non–drug-eluting stents.
