HEALTH EDUCATION DEVELOPED BY PRIMARY CARE TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY SELF-CARE IN VULNERABLE AREAS

Considering the social inequalities that characterize vulnerable territories and their impacts on health conditions, health education developed within the scope of Primary Health Care (PHC) presents itself as a fundamental strategy for strengthening community self-care. This study aims to describe how the literature presents health education developed by Primary Health Care for the strengthening of community self-care. To this end, a narrative literature review of a qualitative and descriptive-analytical nature was conducted, searching for studies published between 2024 and 2025 in the SciELO, BVS, LILACS, MEDLINE/PubMed, Google Scholar databases and official documents from the Ministry of Health, using controlled descriptors DeCS and MeSH combined with Boolean operators. Thus, it is observed that health education is presented as a structuring practice of the PHC work process, favoring user autonomy, social participation, the strengthening of community ties, and the collective construction of health care. Educational actions, when guided by territorial specificities and developed in a participatory manner, contribute to expanding the individual and collective capacity to address health problems. This leads to the conclusion that health education, integrated into the routine of Primary Care, is a central element for strengthening community self-care and promoting equity in socially vulnerable territories..
