Acute pericarditis is one of the most common heart conditions, with multivariate involvement, and can be classified according to its etiology as idiopathic or viral, with the former being more common. The clinical presentation tends to be variable, ranging from oligosymptomatic patients to those who develop cardiogenic shock. The prognosis is favorable in the vast majority of cases. This study aims to evaluate the main etiologies, treatment, and prognosis, and is a narrative review encompassing several studies on the topic of acute pericarditis.
