Abstract

Peri-implantitis is a rapidly progressing inflammatory disease and therefore requires early diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this study was to conduct a chronological narrative literature review on the non-surgical treatment of peri-implantitis associated with low-power laser therapy between 2015 and July 2025. Ten articles were selected from the MEDLINE (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature), and Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source databases using the following keywords: peri-implantitis, diode laser, nonsurgical treatment, low-level laser. The results obtained allowed us to conclude that photodynamic therapy performed with a diode laser in the nonsurgical treatment of peri-implantitis was effective in resolving the clinical parameters evaluated in only 3 of the 10 articles evaluated. It was not possible to establish a PDT application protocol, and microbiological and immunological results were scarce in the literature. Therefore, further studies are suggested to verify whether the results can be maintained.
