Abstract

Leadership has a decisive influence on the organizational environment, directly affecting employee satisfaction, engagement, and performance. This study aimed to analyze how leadership styles impact employee motivation in supermarkets in Gurupi-TO, Brazil. The research, combining bibliographic review and field study, used structured questionnaire applied to 20 employees from supermarket establishments. The findings revealed that democratic and participatory leadership practices are associated with higher levels of motivation, cooperation, and commitment, while authoritarian leadership correlates with lower satisfaction and engagement. It was also observed that organizational climate acts as a significant mediator between leadership and motivation, reinforcing the relevance of human-centered management practices aligned with team needs. The study contributes to understanding leadership dynamics in the retail supermarket sector and provides practical insights to improve people management strategies, highlighting recognition, efficient communication, expanded benefits, and career development.
