Abstract

This article analyzes the subjective effects of user interaction with Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, based on the hypothesis that such technologies operate as psychic prostheses within narcissistic dynamics. It introduces the concept of “artificial narcissism” to describe a specific mode of engagement in which AI simulates presence and recognition without introducing frustration or alterity. This configuration favors the repetition of imaginary patterns of completeness and omnipotence, limiting the transition toward more symbolic and object-related forms of relating. The research follows a theoretical-conceptual methodology, articulating psychoanalytic categories with contemporary examples of AI use. Phenomena such as mirroring, projection, and simulation are examined to understand how they affect the experience of self and the constitution of psychic reality. It is argued that by reinforcing fantasies of total control and avoiding the experience of loss, AI solidifies regressive positions that hinder subjective elaboration. The study concludes that the bond formed with AI should not be understood solely in functional or technical terms, but as the expression of a new type of psychic connection. Rather than promoting symbolization, this bond tends to repeat dynamics of fusion and narcissistic dependence, with significant clinical and social implications. The article advocates for a psychoanalytic approach attentive to these effects and encourages broader discussion on the subjective transformations associated with technological advancement.
