Introduction: Head lice infestation, caused by insects of the order Phthiraptera, poses a public health challenge, particularly in school settings, linked to social conditions such as overcrowding and poor hygiene. This study reports the experience of an extension project conducted at Centro Municipal de Educação Infantil Padre Pedro Balzi, targeting five-year-old children, in collaboration with Unidade Básica de Saúde Dr. Helvidio Ferraz. Objective: The aim was to promote health education for pediculosis prevention through playful strategies, including costumes of the etiological agent Pediculus humanus, slides, videos, interactive dolls, and hygiene kit distribution. Methods: The descriptive and observational methodology involved planning with a literature review on the CAPES Periodicals Portal, technical visits, and the implementation of age-appropriate interactive activities. Results and Discussion: Results showed high receptivity, active engagement, and comprehension of transmission, treatment, and prevention concepts, notably reducing associated stigmas. The distribution of educational materials extended the action’s reach to families. The integration of health and education, mediated by playfulness, proved effective in promoting self-care and humanizing care, reinforcing the university’s role as a transformative agent in underserved communities. Conclusion: Therefore, the integration between health and education, mediated by play, has proven to be effective in promoting self-care and humanizing care, reinforcing the role of the university as a transformative agent in underprivileged communities. It is suggested that similar actions be continued to consolidate educational and preventive gains.
