The aim of this study was to identify gaps in the knowledge of primary care professionals about the relationship between DM and CKD screening in children and adolescents. The methodological design consisted of a situational diagnosis and field research, carried out in 14 UBS in a municipality in the interior of Pernambuco, with the presence of 27 participants including doctors and nurses, the data was collected through an individualized interview, the data was qualitative and Bardin's content analysis. The results show weaknesses in knowledge about CKD screening and the guidelines for CKD screening in people with DM. However, the professionals' insufficient knowledge of CKD screening for children and adolescents with DM is reflected in the lack of conduct in clinical practice during PHC consultations and in the late diagnosis of CKD cases.
