In order to understand communicational/discursive processes, it is necessary to have knowledge of several areas of knowledge, from History to Psychology, including Linguistics and Hermeneutics. This article focuses on the discourse of one of the most important figures of the First Republic of Brazil (1889-1930), Innocêncio Serzedello Corrêa, based on the analysis of three speeches made by the politician from Pará. In the textual analysis, it was possible to observe the presence of discursive/ideological formations belonging to nationalist and positivist discourses, with a strong valorization of the Republic as a system of government that made the Brazilian hero one of the most emblematic figures of an era.
