LEPTOSPIROSIS IN PREGNANT WOMAN: CASE REPORT OF SEVERE SEPSIS WITH MATERNAL IMPACTS

Abstract

Leptospirosis is a zoonosis with a significant public health impact, potentially leading to severe cases, especially in pregnant women [1]. This case report describes the clinical course of a fifth-gestation patient, without prior comorbidities, who developed septic shock due to leptospirosis at 21 weeks of gestation. The patient had not initiated prenatal care and initially experienced therapeutic failure, delaying the correct diagnosis. The evolution was marked by acute renal failure and the need for intensive care support. The infection during pregnancy increases the risk of fetal complications, such as fetal distress and growth restriction [2]. The discussion highlights the importance of early diagnosis and adequate prenatal care in detecting and preventing maternal-fetal complications.
