The incorporation of technological innovations in the field of health, with a special focus on digital technologies such as virtual reality, represents a crucial advance for pain management and the humanization of care in pediatric patients undergoing invasive procedures. The overall objective of this work was to analyze the effectiveness and contributions of virtual reality and other digital technologies as non-pharmacological strategies for pain management and the promotion of humanization in the care of hospitalized children. The methodology consisted of an exploratory literature review of a qualitative and descriptive nature, complemented by a systematic patent survey, analyzing the literature and innovations registered between 2010 and 2025. The results confirmed that Virtual Reality and digital resources have a transformative role, acting as a superior and scientifically validated complement to conventional analgesic treatment, effective in reducing acute (such as venipuncture) and chronic pain. The patent review revealed a clear and consistent investment in Audiovisual Distraction (AVR) and Extended Reality (XR) innovations, globally reinforcing the focus on less traumatic pediatric care. These tools enhance humanization, as they transform the hospital environment into a welcoming and autonomous space, strengthening the therapeutic bond through the use of play. However, the research highlights challenges in large-scale implementation, which require clear protocols, professional training, and active nursing leadership to overcome inequities and ensure long-term safety and efficacy.
