Abstract

This article analyzes the transition toward green construction by comparing practices adopted in Brazil and the United States, highlighting the main challenges, opportunities, and trends shaping the sector in both countries. The research is based on a bibliographic review of scientific and institutional publications from 2015 to 2022, allowing the identification of different levels of maturity regarding sustainability in the construction industry. While the United States presents well-structured policies, financial incentives, and consolidated technical progress, Brazil still faces barriers related to regulation, access to technology, and market culture. The study also observes that the integration of innovation, funding, and professional training is essential for the effectiveness of proposed changes. The methodology prioritized critical analysis of national publications referencing real authors, ensuring theoretical consistency and depth in the discussion. The results show that, despite national differences, there are common paths that can lead the construction sector to become more efficient, resilient, and environmentally responsible. In Brazil, green construction is not yet widespread, but the elements identified throughout the article point to significant growth potential, provided there is alignment among public policies, private initiatives, and social engagement. The text reinforces the importance of a systemic and context-adapted approach, proposing that sustainability be incorporated as a foundational principle rather than an isolated strategy. The study concludes that green construction depends not only on technical solutions but also on a renewed understanding of development, quality of life, and responsibility toward future generations.
