Abstract

This study analyzed the integration of small-sided games as a formative strategy for motor, tactical and cognitive development in youth athletes involved in high-performance programs, emphasizing how these compressed environments intensify stimuli and support complex learning processes. Through a literature review, evidence was interpreted demonstrating that these formats contribute to improvements in coordination, postural stability and agility, which are essential components of efficient sports actions. In the tactical dimension, small spaces, rapid interactions and constant reorganization were shown to enhance players’ understanding of game principles, strengthening their ability to anticipate movements, recognize patterns and build strategic decisions. Regarding cognition, the high informational density of small-sided games was found to stimulate executive functions responsible for attention, planning, working memory and fast interpretation of complex scenarios. Overall, findings indicate that small-sided games represent a valuable methodological tool for coaches, as they integrate multiple performance dimensions within a single environment and promote development that is articulated, contextualized and aligned with the demands of contemporary sport.
