Abstract

Clinical decision-making in outpatient dental surgeries involves the analysis of multiple variables related to the patient, the procedure and the clinical conditions identified during the initial evaluation, organizing this process through structured models helps reduce the probability of complications and improves the predictability of therapeutic outcomes. This study aimed to analyze clinical factors associated with the risk of complications in outpatient dental surgical procedures and to discuss the application of risk-oriented decision-making models as a preventive strategy. The methodology consisted of a qualitative and descriptive study based on the analysis of recent scientific publications related to patient safety, clinical assessment and risk stratification in dentistry. The findings indicated that surgical complications are frequently associated with comorbidities, failures in clinical planning and the absence of systematic evaluation protocols, highlighting the importance of proper clinical data collection and structured therapeutic reasoning. It is concluded that the use of structured risk-oriented clinical decision-making models contributes to improving patient safety, reducing adverse events and increasing the predictability of outcomes in outpatient dental surgeries.
