PREVALENCE OF CHANGES IN OTOACUSTIC EMISSION TESTING IN NEWBORNS AND THE MAIN ASSOCIATED RISK FACTORS

Hearing is an important sensory function, allowing the child to acquire global development and oral language. The incidence of sensorineural hearing loss varies according to the presence of risk factors the newborn presents, and can negatively impact their life. Neonatal hearing screening programs make it possible to detect hearing impairment in the first few days after birth, carrying out a quick and effective assessment to detect hearing pathologies, improving the management of affected children, and rehabilitating them in their early stages. Techniques primarily used include automated auditory brainstem responses and otoacoustic emissions that provide non-invasive recordings of physiological auditory activity and are easily performed. In short, for better results, identifying risk factors, adequate and timely diagnosis and early intervention result in better levels of the child’s linguistic, academic and social skills. This work aimed to describe the prevalence of changes in the Otoacoustic Emissions Test in the studied population carried out at the Hospital Regional de Presidente Prudente in the years 2020 to 2022, relating it to the main risk indicators, in addition to extolling the benefits of screening programs.
