APPLICATION OF LEAN MANUFACTURING TOOLS TO IMPROVE PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY

Abstract

This article presents an in-depth analysis of the application of lean manufacturing tools as a strategy to improve production efficiency across various industrial and organizational sectors. The research was conducted through a qualitative bibliographic review, based on case studies and specialized literature, covering experiences in segments such as the automotive, textile, furniture, food, remanufacturing industries, and laboratory environments. The central objective was to understand how lean principles and tools contribute to waste elimination, workflow optimization, and organizational competitiveness enhancement. The analyzed results demonstrated that the structured implementation of lean practices, combined with effective change management and team engagement, provides significant gains in productivity, quality, and operational flexibility. Tools such as 5S, Kaizen, PDCA, SMED, OEE, Ishikawa Diagram, and 5W2H proved particularly effective in promoting efficiency, successfully adapting to different contexts and production demands. In addition to the quantitative improvements observed, such as the reduction of cycle times and unnecessary movements, the studies highlighted qualitative benefits, including the strengthening of organizational culture, the enhancement of team morale, and the creation of an environment conducive to innovation and continuous improvement. The article concludes that lean manufacturing, by integrating solid principles, practical tools, and a long-term vision, constitutes an essential approach for organizations seeking operational excellence and sustainable competitive advantage in an increasingly dynamic and demanding market.
