UNDERSTANDING AND INTERPRETING TEXTUAL GENRES CIRCULATING IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY

Among the challenges facing education today is the need to connect global events with regional and local contexts, aiming to contribute to the building of citizenship and mitigate social inequalities. Considering that many teachers lack a strong theoretical understanding of textual genres, and seeking to emphasize the distinction between modes of discourse organization and genres, this article will explore these ideas to facilitate comprehension. Textual genres are oral and written texts produced by speakers of a language at a specific historical moment, directly linked to social practices, and modes of discourse organization such as narration, description, and exposition (subdivided into argumentative, informative, and injunctive). These ideas will be addressed from this perspective.
