Abstract

Excess body weight is recognized as a chronic, multifactorial disease of epidemic proportions. Surgical procedures aid in weight loss and are increasingly utilized, proving to be an effective strategy for treating severe obesity and improving overall well-being. Studies indicate that 20% to 30% of bariatric patients experience weight regain starting in the second year post-surgery, which may compromise clinical outcomes. This study aims to analyze the factors related to weight regain and its relationship with multidisciplinary follow-up in patients undergoing bariatric surgery, based on scientific evidence. An integrative literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol across the VHL, MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, and SciELO databases, covering the period from 2017 to 2024. From the results, 17 articles were selected, they identified six main categories of factors associated with weight regain, which are: eating habits, physical activity, psychological aspects, metabolic factors, influence of the environment and family support, and the role of nursing in the comprehensive follow-up of the post-bariatric patient. In conclusion, maintaining weight loss depends on continuous specialized care, emphasizing that the integrated action of a multidisciplinary healthcare team is essential during the postoperative period.
