Abstract

Interprofessional practice involves activities and actions carried out by two or more professionals who learn collaboratively, contributing to improved quality of health care through effective teamwork and a comprehensive approach. This study aimed to evaluate the perceptions and level of knowledge of health sciences faculty regarding interprofessional education and practice in health care. This was an exploratory, descriptive, and analytical study with a mixed-methods (quantitative and qualitative) approach, conducted virtually at the Center for Biological and Health Sciences of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB). The sample consisted of 35 faculty members from undergraduate programs in Physical Therapy, Psychology, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy at UEPB – Campus I. Data were collected using an online questionnaire developed on the Google Forms platform, addressing individual and academic characteristics, as well as curricular components and teaching experiences related to interprofessional education. Data analysis was performed using electronic spreadsheets, with descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative interpretation. The results showed that 57.1% of participants had heard about or studied collaborative competencies; 65.7% reported having participated in or coordinated projects involving students from different health programs; 68.6% had participated in or witnessed interprofessional health care practices; and 100% of the respondents believed that learning alongside professionals from different disciplines enhances effectiveness in health care teams. It is concluded that faculty members demonstrated a satisfactory level of knowledge regarding interprofessional education and recognized its relevance for professional training and the health labor market.
