TARUMÃ ECOMUSEUM: INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN CULTURAL HERITAGE AND TOURISM IN THE AGROVILLAGE COMMUNITY - MANAUS - AM

Abstract

Ecomuseums are spaces that embody a museological language allowing for interactions and experiences that go beyond traditional collections on display, incorporating intangible elements that carry the cultural identity of a people and a territory. This creates a multidimensional and timeless dimension. The present article is situated within the discussions on social museology, with the main objective of analyzing the tourism potential of the Tarumã Ecomuseum, located in the Agrovila Amazonino Mendes community, within the Tupé Sustainable Development Reserve, in Manaus, Amazonas. The specific objectives are: to contextualize the creation process of the Tarumã Ecomuseum; to identify the connections between the Tarumã Ecomuseum and tourism; and to understand the community members’ perceptions of both the Ecomuseum and tourism. The adopted methodology was qualitative in nature, particularly action research, involving the use of forms, semi-structured interviews, discussion circles, participant observation, and field diary records, among other methods. Among the research participants, the main interlocutors were community residents, particularly representatives of local collectives. The results show that there is currently a certain distance between the community and the Tarumã Ecomuseum due to some conflicts; however, despite these challenges, the research participants recognize the existence and potential of other attractions within the community, and there is interest among residents in developing community-based tourism.
