THE CREATION OF AN ENVIRONMENT FOR SCIENTIFIC INITIATION, EXTENSION, AND INNOVATION WITHIN THE OPEN UNIVERSITY OF BRAZIL SYSTEM (PICEI-UAB) AND HOW IT CAN SUPPORT TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAMS

Abstract

The study proposed in this article aims to present the Incentive Project for the Creation of an Environment for Scientific Initiation, Research, University Extension and Innovation (PICEI-UAB) developed by DED/CAPES, which presents itself as a possibility for the centers of the Open University of Brazil, based on the actions of the participating universities and their teachers, tutors and managers, to act in carrying out academic actions, enabling the courses in the centers to encourage the creation of an environment favorable to research, extension and innovation and, in this way, promote a sustainable training environment and boost local and regional development. Considering that undergraduate degrees represent 75% of the courses at the Open University of Brazil (UAB), we understand that the scientific literacy being developed in the teacher training process allows the undergraduate student to be encouraged to seek new skills that lead them to produce scientific knowledge and master techniques and languages in the field of science, favoring an understanding of the production of scientific articles and projects, which will allow this teacher to apply this knowledge in the classroom and reproduce it to their future students. When analyzing the educational system in Brazil, it is observed that the continuous training demands of teachers working in basic education develop within a political system, in which the vast majority of actions are induced by the Ministry of Education at the federal level and decentralized to states and municipalities through the actions of educational institutions with funding from funding agencies, as is the case of PICEI/CAPES/UAB, that is, an institutional project that will be strengthened through a collaborative regime.
