THE USE OF DISCUSSION CIRCLES AND ACTIVE METHODOLOGIES IN PRENATAL EDUCATION: A NARRATIVE REVIEW ON THE POTENTIAL OF POPULAR HEALTH EDUCATION FOR PROMOTING ACTIVE AND INFORMED CHILDBIRTH

Health education during prenatal care is a fundamental component of women's health care within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), especially when guided by the principles of Popular Health Education, which prioritize dialogue, social participation, and the valuing of pregnant women's knowledge. In the context of educational practices developed in primary care, the use of participatory strategies, such as discussion groups and active methodologies, is observed, aimed at expanding access to information and promoting active and informed childbirth. Given this scenario, the present study aimed to describe the use of discussion groups and active methodologies in the education of pregnant women within the context of popular health education and the promotion of active and informed childbirth. This is a narrative literature review, qualitative in nature and descriptive-analytical in character, conducted through non-systematic searches in the PubMed, SciELO, and Virtual Health Library databases, in addition to the analysis of official documents from the Ministry of Health. The included studies show that discussion groups favor the exchange of experiences, the clarification of doubts, and the collective construction of knowledge, while active methodologies broaden the engagement of pregnant women and stimulate critical reflection on the pregnancy-puerperal process. The results indicate that these educational strategies contribute to strengthening female autonomy, protagonism in care, and participation in decisions related to childbirth. It is concluded that the articulation between Popular Health Education, discussion groups, and active methodologies is a relevant strategy in the education of pregnant women, favoring participatory educational practices aligned with the promotion of active and informed childbirth within the scope of primary care.
