In recent decades, the Internet has established itself as one of the most significant technological innovations in history, profoundly transforming how individuals, businesses, institutions, and governments interact and conduct their activities. This study aimed to analyze the importance of internet service providers, highlighting their historical and conceptual aspects, as well as the challenges and benefits for current society. The investigation began with a review of eight recent articles addressing topics such as connectivity, regional development, digital public services, financial inclusion, connected education, and smart cities. The methodology consisted of a qualitative analysis of the selected studies through bibliographic reviews on the subject, highlighting the relevance of internet service providers to current society, observing convergences, differences, and contributions of each research. The results indicated that the performance of providers has a direct impact on economic productivity, the reduction of inequalities, the expansion of access to essential services, and the modernization of public policies. In general, the discussion derived from the eight articles indicated that the Internet, in addition to being a technology, is a crucial social infrastructure for human, economic, and educational development. In this context, providers assume a strategic role in building more productive, innovative, and inclusive societies. It is concluded that the expansion of digital infrastructure is a strategic element for social development and for building more equitable opportunities. Although challenges related to coverage, accessibility, and service quality still exist, it is clear that the presence of internet providers in society not only keeps pace with the transformations of the modern world but also directly contributes to shaping processes of change.
