Abstract

Male breast cancer, although rare, has gained increasing relevance due to its frequent late diagnosis and the high clinical complexity of advanced cases. This article presents an experience report describing the comprehensive care provided to a male patient with stage IV invasive breast carcinoma, characterized by an extensive ulcerated lesion and multiple pulmonary, bone, and cutaneous metastases. The objective of the study was to analyze the care strategies adopted by the multidisciplinary team, highlighting the role of nursing in clinical management, pain relief, prevention of complications, and promotion of comfort. The results showed progressive worsening of dyspnea, intense pain, debilitating fatigue, and neurological deterioration due to pathological vertebral fractures and spinal cord compression, requiring immediate intervention and coordination among professionals. The interventions included optimized analgesia, clinical stabilization, specialized wound care, careful repositioning, emotional support, and effective communication with the patient and family. The discussion emphasizes that male breast cancer remains underdiagnosed and associated with stigma, lack of knowledge, and delays in seeking medical care, contributing to advanced-stage detection. Literature indicates that an integral and humanized approach is essential to reduce suffering and preserve dignity in cases with systemic metastasis. The experience reported reinforces the importance of interdisciplinary work and qualified nursing care to support well-being, symptom control, and humanized care. It is concluded that managing advanced male breast cancer requires clinical sensitivity, personalized strategies, and integrated care, as well as greater public and professional awareness and future research to expand knowledge about effective interventions for this population.
