Forensic Veterinary Medicine is consolidating as an interdisciplinary field that applies the technical and scientific foundations of Human Forensic Medicine to the investigation of crimes and disputes involving animals. This study aimed to analyze the feasibility of adapting Human Forensic Medicine protocols to the veterinary context, discussing their legal, scientific, and operational implications. The methodology consisted of a narrative literature review of national and international sources, including books, laws, resolutions from the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine, and scientific articles published between 2012 and 2025. Human and veterinary forensic procedures were compared, including forensic examination, medico-legal necropsy, chain of custody, and technical report structuring. The results demonstrated that adapting human forensic protocols is feasible and provides significant improvements in standardization, traceability, and evidentiary reliability of veterinary reports. It was also observed that institutional strengthening, professional certification programs, and national regulations led by the CFMV are necessary. The study concludes that adapting human forensic protocols to the biological and behavioral specificities of animal species represents an effective strategy to consolidate Forensic Veterinary Medicine as a scientific and legal discipline in Brazil.
