Breastfeeding is essential for the health of both baby and mother, but faces challenges due to myths and misinformation. This study analyzed the main factors that influence this practice, focusing on difficulties and misconceptions. The bibliographic research, using a qualitative approach, was conducted between January and April 2025. The objectives of this research include identifying the main myths related to breastfeeding, understanding the physical, emotional, social, and cultural challenges faced by mothers, and highlighting the classic and current benefits of breastfeeding. Data collection included scientific articles, books, and documents from health agencies, following strict criteria. After screening, 16 publications were analyzed. The results indicated that myths about insufficient breast milk and the early introduction of artificial formulas hinder breastfeeding. The role of health professionals in maternal guidance, promoting evidence-based information, is highlighted. It was concluded that the dissemination of knowledge and incentive policies are fundamental to increasing breastfeeding rates and reducing the impacts of misinformation.
