Abstract

The teaching of technical drawing represents one of the foundations of education in engineering and architecture, serving as the primary means through which ideas, concepts, and constructive solutions are graphically expressed. In this context, the publication of NBR 16752:2020 brought significant advances by establishing updated parameters for the preparation and presentation of technical drawings, replacing outdated and fragmented guidelines that no longer met the contemporary demands of the sector. This standard defines unified criteria for margins, frames, legends, scales, and sheet formats, ensuring greater clarity, accuracy, and uniformity in technical communication. With this update, the teaching and learning process of technical drawing now incorporates practices that are more compatible with the digital environment, which currently dominates project production through modeling software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM. The application of NBR 16752:2020 in higher education institutions has thus become an essential tool for pedagogical modernization. By adopting the standard as a reference, engineering and architecture programs bring students closer to market demands, promoting a more solid and contextualized technical education. Students learn early on the importance of graphic standardization for the quality and safety of projects, developing fundamental skills of precision, organization, and visual communication. Furthermore, educators gain normative support to align their teaching practices with nationally and internationally recognized standards, contributing to the improvement of educational quality and the training of more competitive professionals. However, the inclusion of the standard in the academic context also reveals challenges. Many programs still employ traditional methodologies that do not fully incorporate the new guidelines, requiring updates to syllabi, faculty training, and revisions of instructional materials. Adapting to NBR 16752:2020 demands institutional efforts, especially regarding the integration of theory and practice and the adoption of technological tools consistent with the normative parameters. Overcoming these barriers is essential to consolidate a culture of standardization and quality in technical education capable of keeping pace with technological transformations and the demands of the productive sector. Therefore, the study of the application of NBR 16752:2020 in technical drawing education proves relevant not only from a normative perspective but also from educational and professional standpoints. The standard promotes the integration of technical knowledge and pedagogical practice, becoming a strategic tool for the training of engineers and architects who are more prepared, ethical, and aware of their social role. By consolidating a unified standard of graphic representation, it contributes to the efficiency of teaching processes, the reduction of communication errors, and the strengthening of the quality of projects developed in the country. Thus, understanding and applying its principles within universities means investing in academic excellence and in the modernization of Brazilian engineering and architecture.
