This study analyzes the commercialization of medical education in Brazil, a phenomenon driven by the expansion of medical schools, particularly in the private sector. The rapid opening of new institutions, without proper infrastructure and qualified faculty, has raised concerns about the quality of health professionals' training and its impact on the Unified Health System (SUS). The narrative review was conducted based on publications from 2014 to 2024 in the PUBMED, LILACS, and SCIELO databases, selecting 25 articles for final analysis. The results indicate that the market-driven approach to medical education undermines students' practical training and exacerbates inequalities in access to healthcare, as poorly prepared professionals enter the workforce. The study concludes that greater government regulation and faculty appreciation are needed to reverse the negative impacts of commercialization and ensure high-quality medical education that aligns with societal and SUS needs.
