A RELAÇÃO ENTRE SARCOPENIA E DOENÇAS BUCAIS: IMPACTOS NA SAÚDE SISTÊMICA E QUALIDADE DE VIDA

Resumo

A sarcopenia, caracterizada pela perda progressiva de massa, força e desempenho muscular, tem se tornado uma preocupação crescente no envelhecimento populacional. Simultaneamente, doenças bucais, como periodontite e edentulismo, afetam a função mastigatória e a ingestão nutricional, podendo agravar quadros sistêmicos. Estudos recentes sugerem uma relação bidirecional entre essas condições, impactando negativamente a qualidade de vida. Objetivo: Analisar a associação entre sarcopenia e doenças bucais, analisando seus impactos na saúde sistêmica e na qualidade de vida de idosos. Metodologia: Realizou-se uma revisão integrativa da literatura por meio das bases PubMed, Scielo e LILACS, com os descritores: “sarcopenia”, “doenças bucais”, “saúde sistêmica” e “qualidade de vida”. Foram incluídos artigos sem restrição de tempo, em português e inglês. Após aplicação dos critérios de elegibilidade, 69 estudos foram selecionados para análise qualitativa. Resultados: A análise revelou que indivíduos com sarcopenia apresentam maior prevalência de problemas bucais, incluindo perda dentária, redução da força mastigatória e hipofunção oral. A mastigação ineficaz contribui para ingestão nutricional inadequada, agravando a sarcopenia. Além disso, processos inflamatórios associados a doenças periodontais são relacionados à piora da resposta muscular sistêmica. Tais condições influenciam diretamente na autonomia, funcionalidade e qualidade de vida dos idosos. Conclusão: A relação entre sarcopenia e doenças bucais é multifatorial e interdependente. O manejo clínico integrado dessas condições é essencial para mitigar seus efeitos sobre a saúde sistêmica e promover um envelhecimento mais saudável.
