Abstract

This article aimed to understand the relevance of media literacy in the context of basic education curricula. The study addressed the presence of digital media in everyday school life and its implications for students' critical thinking. The methodology adopted consisted of qualitative bibliographic research, based on the analysis of scientific articles, official documents, and recent publications in the educational field. The investigation identified that media literacy constitutes a central dimension of digital citizenship and should be integrated into school curricula in a transversal and interdisciplinary manner. The results indicated the existence of important regulatory advances, such as CNE/CEB Resolution No. 2/2025 and the National Digital Education Plan, but also revealed difficulties in the practical implementation of these guidelines, especially with regard to teacher training. It is concluded that the consolidation of media literacy requires structural reforms in curricula, investment in public policies, and the valorization of schools as strategic spaces for critical media reading. Future research should focus on analyzing concrete pedagogical experiences that promote the reflective use of media in different school contexts.
