Abstract

This article aims to analyze the implementation of audiovisual cameras in public security as a method of protecting society and assisting the police in combating crime, as well as the justifications for implementing this type of technology, which is growing worldwide, where monitoring raises several controversial points such as: surveillance, privacy and intimacy, abuse of authority, among others. It will discuss how public security policies are created, as well as the history of police video monitoring after the insertion of information technology in the fight against crime. The comparative law between Brazil and China regarding the use of technology in public security will also be addressed. Issues concerning the violation of guarantees and privacy, national surveillance, control of population behavior, and abuse of authority will be discussed. The method used was bibliographic research, conducting a literature review, published scientific articles, notorious cases related to the topic, and decisions issued in Brazil.
