Abstract

Dental resorption is a pathological process characterized by the progressive loss of hard dental tissue, resulting from the activity of odontoclastic cells. It can occur internally, inside the root canal, or externally, on the root surface, presenting different causes, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic approaches. This study aimed to review the recent literature on the types of dental resorption, their clinical and radiographic characteristics, as well as current diagnostic and treatment strategies. This is a narrative review conducted in the PubMed database, using the descriptors Tooth Resorption, diagnosis, and therapy, selecting articles published in the last five years. The results demonstrate that early diagnosis and the use of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) are essential to distinguish the different types of resorption and plan the appropriate treatment. Therapies vary according to the etiology and extent of the lesion, and may include endodontic procedures, the use of bioceramic cements, and, in complex cases, regenerative approaches.
