Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most disruptive technologies of the 21st century, affecting productive sectors, labor relations, and occupational health and safety processes. In the field of workers’ health, its application ranges from the automation of high‑risk tasks to the integration of intelligent monitoring systems and epidemiological surveillance. This chapter critically analyzes the multiple dimensions of AI in this context, addressing its historical development, technical foundations, practical applications, ethical implications, and social impacts. The analysis is based on a narrative literature review, incorporating data and evidence from international institutions and recent academic studies between 2015 and 2025. The text discusses how AI can simultaneously expand the capacity for prevention and control of occupational risks while introducing challenges related to job insecurity, excessive surveillance, and social inequality. Finally, it presents perspectives for public policies and ethical governance to ensure that technological advances effectively contribute to the protection of workers’ health.
