Abstract

Obesity represents a global public health crisis, recognized as a multifaceted chronic disease. Understanding this complexity is fundamental for developing effective therapeutic approaches, as traditional treatments often fail to promote sustainable results. This study aimed to conduct an integrative literature review to identify the determinants of eating behavior in obese adults. The findings reveal that weight gain and regain are influenced by dysfunctional eating patterns, such as cognitive restriction, emotional eating, and binge eating, in addition to socioeconomic determinants like income and education. We conclude that the complex nature of obesity demands a multidisciplinary and individualized approach, integrating nutritional, psychological, and medical support to foster a healthy relationship with food and the body in the long term.
