THE FESTIVAL OF THE BOI PINTADINHO OF MUQUI-ES AS AN ECOLOGY OF KNOWLEDGE: A BRIEF ETHNOMATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF CULTURAL RESISTANCE AND COMMUNITY MEMORY

This article analyzes the Boi Pintadinho Festival, a Carnival event in Muqui, Espírito Santo, and a regional variation of Bumba meu Boi, focusing on its cultural and social role. It adopts an ethnomathematical perspective to observe the festival's dynamics and practices, proposing a transdisciplinary approach that investigates how this popular event transcends the tradition of revelry and becomes a space of resilience, resistance, and identity. The study presents the festival as a complex ecosystem of knowledge, bodies, and forms of existence, whose social ecology is defined as an ecology of memory, evidenced by the event's ability to adapt and transcend borders. It concludes that the Boi Pintadinho celebration offers a model for rethinking education and sustainability by valuing cultural diversity and local knowledge.
