Abstract

This article will outline the legal protection of energy sources in the country. It will also address Brazil's international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the use of clean energy sources. It will also highlight the benefits and negative externalities that some of these sources entail, demonstrating that these externalities outweigh the benefits they bring to sustainable energy development. The research method used was explanatory, and it was possible to understand that the country has sufficient legislation to protect the production and consumption of renewable energy sources. It also has territorial advantages and natural resources, but there is a lack of public and private sector investment in the production of this type of energy, as demonstrated in the article, since Brazil still opts for the use of fossil fuels.
