Abstract

This study aims to analyze the importance of integrated care in community mental health, addressing its benefits and challenges. It is justified by the growing need for care models that expand access and promote a more humanized approach, according to the World Health Organization (2019). Objectives include exploring the outcomes of integrated care practices, especially in low- and middle-income settings. A narrative review of the literature, including peer-reviewed articles and reports from international organizations, was used to understand the effectiveness and obstacles of this approach. The results indicate that integrated care reduces stigma, improves treatment adherence and promotes the social inclusion of patients. However, barriers to its implementation were identified, such as lack of specific public policies and limited resources in vulnerable regions. It is concluded that, for the expansion of integrated care, government investments and reforms in mental health policies are necessary.
