PARAMEDIC MICROPIGMENTATION IN POST-MASTECTOMY BREAST RECONSTRUCTION: REVIEW OF TECHNIQUES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT

Paramedical micropigmentation has become an important tool in the aesthetic and emotional rehabilitation process of women who have undergone mastectomy. This article presents a critical review of Brazilian literature on the techniques used in the reconstruction of the areola-papillary complex through micropigmentation, and discusses its subjective effects on body identity, self-esteem, and psychosocial reintegration of patients. Based on the analysis of scientific studies published between 2017 and 2024, a significant evolution is observed both in the instruments and pigments used and in the humanized approach adopted by professionals. The results show that the technique promotes positive impacts on body image perception, symbolic closure of the cancer cycle, and strengthening of female autonomy. Furthermore, the importance of qualified training for micropigmentation professionals and active listening in patient care is highlighted, as these enhance the therapeutic effects of the procedure. By visually restoring a body part removed during cancer surgery, micropigmentation acts as a strategy of symbolic reconstruction and dignity recovery. It is concluded that its inclusion in interdisciplinary protocols and its recognition as an integrative practice are essential to ensure comprehensive, ethical, and sensitive care tailored to the needs of women after mastectomy.
