Abstract

The presence of PFAS in U.S. drinking water has created a significant public health concern due to the persistence of these compounds and the limited effectiveness of conventional treatment systems. This article examines the crisis by addressing the toxicological impacts of prolonged exposure, the industrial history behind PFAS dissemination, and the vulnerability of affected communities. The main objective is to assess the potential of advanced domestic filtration technologies as an immediate mitigation measure, supported by evidence of effective molecular retention through activated carbon and dense membrane systems. The study is based on a critical literature review involving scientific research, institutional reports, and epidemiological analyses. Results indicate links between long-term exposure and immunological, endocrine, and potentially carcinogenic effects, while also showing that domestic filters can substantially reduce PFAS intake. The study concludes that these technologies function as a rapid, accessible protective measure while broader regulatory and infrastructural responses continue to evolve.
