ENDODONTIC RETREATMENT OF TEETH 21 AND 22 – ONE-YEAR PRESERVATION AFTER COMPLETION OF ROOT CANAL SYSTEM FILLING – CASE REPORT

This study reported the repair of a periapical lesion after endodontic retreatment. A 42-year-old female patient was referred to an endodontic specialist for endodontic retreatment of teeth 21 and 22. Clinically, she was asymptomatic, and the periapical radiographic examination revealed radiopaque material similar to gutta-percha and inadequate canal obturation (under-obturation of the root canal), in addition to a radiolucent image. After anesthesia, a coronal opening was performed. Unobturation was performed with ProDesign Logic RT #.25/08 rotary instruments. Root canal repreparation was performed with a Solla Collors 70.03 file. Foraminal debridement was performed with a Logic 25.01 instrument to the actual length of the tooth. Root canal obturation was performed using the single cone technique associated with the bioceramic endodontic sealer Bio-C Sealer. Follow-up after 1 year showed that the patient was asymptomatic, and the radiographic examination demonstrated repair of the periapical lesion. It is concluded that retreatment performed with a rotary system determined successful endodontic therapy, with complete repair of periapical bone radiolucency.
