ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL CARE IN HEMODIALYSIS OF CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS IN AN ICU SETTING

Hemodialysis applied to critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units constitutes a therapeutic intervention aimed at maintaining hydroelectrolytic balance and controlling metabolic disturbances resulting from acute kidney injury, particularly in hemodynamically unstable conditions that impair renal filtration function. The management of this procedure in the intensive care environment requires continuous monitoring of clinical and laboratory parameters, considering the influence of ultrafiltration on volemia and tissue perfusion during extracorporeal support. The objective of this study is to analyze the technical care involved in hemodialysis for critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units, with emphasis on hemodynamic monitoring, adequacy of vascular access, and anticoagulation strategies employed during renal replacement therapy. The investigation is characterized as a qualitative literature review, structured from the selection of scientific publications related to the technical management of hemodialysis in intensive care settings. The results indicate that adequate dialysis dosing, maintenance of extracorporeal circuit patency, and systematic monitoring of metabolic response contribute to clinical stability during treatment. It is concluded that the systematization of technical care related to hemodialysis promotes greater patient safety and improved performance of renal support in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units.
