Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic promoted significant changes in the organization of health services, especially in intensive care units, requiring the reorganization of care flows directed to critically ill patients, considering the need for continuous interventions related to invasive ventilatory support, hemodynamic monitoring and prevention of complications associated with prolonged hospitalization, in this context the performance of the nursing team associated with the implementation of clinical protocols contributed to the safe execution of care practices in environments of high clinical complexity. This study aimed to analyze the technical care related to the safety of critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units during the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the clinical interventions implemented to maintain physiological stability and prevent adverse events. This is a bibliographic research with a qualitative approach and descriptive character, carried out through the analysis of scientific articles published in peer reviewed journals and available in open access electronic databases. The results show that the systematization of care interventions associated with adherence to institutional protocols influences the continuity of intensive care, contributing to patient clinical stabilization and prevention of complications resulting from prolonged hospitalization. It is concluded that the adequate execution of technical care and continuous monitoring of physiological parameters directly influence the quality of care provided to critically ill patients affected by COVID-19 in intensive care units.
