Abstract

It is important to understand that there are different types of allergic diseases, including allergic rhinitis, allergies to medications and foods, and allergic asthma. The main objective of this study is to describe the influence of exposure to allergens on the development of allergies. The specific objectives are: to investigate the causes and symptoms of allergens; to analyze diagnostic methods; and to evaluate methods for preventing and treating allergies. The theme “influence of exposure to allergens on the development of allergies: an integrative review” determined the construction of the PICO strategy, which represents an acronym for Patient (P), Intervention (I), Comparison (C), and Outcomes (O-outcomes), which generated the guiding question of this integrative literature review: “What is the influence of exposure to allergens on the development of allergies?”. The results of this study were structured in two stages. The first stage consists of characterizing the studies used, while the second part addresses the objectives of the research, aimed at analyzing scientific productions capable of elucidating the central question investigated. This methodological approach allows for a systematic and rigorous organization of the findings, facilitating the understanding and interpretation of the results obtained. In some cases, allergic inflammation may occur and persist in the absence of exposure to exogenous allergens and, paradoxically, may even resemble a chronic Th1-mediated inflammatory reaction. However, studies are needed to conclusively associate the role of allergies in the onset and development of other diseases.
