Abstract

Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) is one of the major diseases affecting all cattle herds worldwide. It is also extremely important for reproduction, primarily due to its ability to cause abortions, stillbirths, and even death in animals during the reproductive phase, resulting in significant economic impacts on livestock. The disease is caused by a virus of the Pestivirus genus of the Flaviviridae family. BVD exhibits high genetic variability and diverse clinical manifestations, ranging from subclinical infections to severe immunosuppression and reproductive disorders. This study aims to review the main aspects of BVD, including its etiology, symptoms, transmission, diagnosis, prevention, and control. This review highlights the importance of proper health management, including vaccinations, and the adoption of preventive measures to reduce the spread of the virus in cattle herds, thus ensuring good reproductive and economic performance.
