Abstract

Dental occlusion directly influences the stability and success of dental implants, requiring special attention in its application in implantology. This study aimed to review, in an integrative manner, the main fundamentals of occlusion applied to implant-supported prostheses, focusing on biomechanics, distribution of occlusal forces, functional schemes and clinical adjustments. The methodology consisted of a systematic search in scientific databases, selecting studies published in the last five years that address the interaction between occlusion and implantology. The results demonstrate that well-planned and individualized occlusal adjustments significantly reduce complications, such as bone loss and prosthetic failures, in addition to enhancing the longevity of rehabilitations. It is concluded that adequate management of occlusion, combined with digital resources and evidence-based protocols, is essential for clinical success in implantology.
